Current Position
Dr. David Jones is a Professor of Psychology, and currently serves as the Accreditation Liason Officer and Marshal of the College. He is also the faculty sponsor of the college's most prestigious national academic honor society, Alpha Chi.

Dr. Jones received his A.B. in psychology from the University of Southern California in 1984 and graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Jones received his Ph.D. in social psychology from USC in 1991.

Professional Experience
Dr. Jones began his career by teaching part-time at the University of Southern California, Scripps College, and California State University, Long Beach while in graduate school. After receiving his Ph.D., he taught full-time as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Arkansas (now known as Lyon) College from 1991-1995 and joined the Westminster faculty in 1995 at the rank of Assistant Professor of Psychology. He received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor of Psychology in 2001 and was promoted to Professor of Psychology in 2006. Additionally, he currently serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association and as a member of HLC's Institutional Actions Council. Dr. Jones has also previously served as an Advanced Placement (AP) Program Faculty Consultant for psychology. Panel Reviewer for the Advanced Placement Incentive Program for the U.S. Department of Education, as an AP Program auditor, as a consultant to the Texas College Readiness Standards program, as the college representative to the Missouri Teaching and Learning Mentor (TLM) Program, and as a board member of the Family Counseling Center in Columbia, MO. From 2013 to 2018 he served as Associate Dean of Faculty.

Courses Taught
Though his training is in social psychology, Dr. Jones currently teaches a variety of courses in psychology including Psychology as a Social Science (one of the two introductory courses offered by the psychology department), Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Research Tools, Psychology of Religion, Social Psychology (and lab), Psychology of Personality (and lab), Psychology Seminar, Pre-Thesis, and Senior Thesis. He has also previously taught courses in applied psychology, in close relationships, a travel course (with Dr. Linda Aulgur), exploring the culture of Denmark, and a Westminster Seminar course on psychology and the media.

Scholarly/Professional Highlights
Dr. Jones' scholarly achievements comprise over a large number of publications and presentations (including two published books, three published contributions to instructor CD-ROMs for psychology texts, six published papers, and thirty presentations at professional meetings. He (along with Dr. Cathryn Pridal) also received a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor in 2002, and (along with Angela Gerling), received a grant from the Association of College Honor Societies in 2008. He has achieved membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Delta Kappa, and Psi Chi and is an honorary member of Alpha Chi. He has been named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in America, was the 2006 recipient of the Westminster College President's Award for Excellence in Teaching, and received the Distinguished Service Award from Alpha Chi and was elected to the Alpha Chi National Council in 2009. Dr. Jones is a member of a number of professional organizations, including Alpha Chi, the American Association of University Professors, the American Conference of Academic Deans, the Association for Psychological Science, the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the Council of Teachers of Undergraduate Psychology, the Midwestern Psychological Association, Phi Beta Kappa, Psi Chi, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology.

Current and Future Teaching and Research Interests
Dr. Jones is interested in developing research projects to study freshman student transitions to college, training of faculty members, emotional intelligence, the psychology of religious experiences, and shyness.

A native of Southern California, Dr. Jones currently lives in Columbia, MO with his wife Kathy, their son Ethan, one cat, Lexie, an Australian sheepdog, Max, and a beagle, Mario. When not teaching or spending time with family, he enjoys rooting for his favorite sports teams (USC Trojans, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, and Kansas City Royals), collects sports and historical memorabilia, and tries to travel as much as he can!
