Graduates who majored or minored in Classics, Philosophy, and Religious Studies at Westminster have distinguished themselves in numerous ways.  Many have entered graduate programs in areas ranging from museum studies to Islamic studies – at some of the most prestigious schools in the country, such as Harvard, Princeton and Vanderbilt Universities.  Others have entered the world of work immediately after graduation, taking positions in government, business, or education.  Whatever path those graduates have chosen, they report that their studies in Westminster’s Department of Classics, Philosophy and Religious Studies has prepared them exceptionally well.  Westminster graduates say they are confident in their ability to analyze issues, develop and express clearly their ideas, and relate with sensitivity and understanding to people of various cultures and backgrounds.

Faculty members in Classics, Philosophy, and Classical Studies are themselves committed to lifelong learning.  They participate actively in the professional associations of their disciplines, presenting papers at various meetings each year.   If they expect students to write papers, they think they should also!  They also publish articles and books that emerge out of and enhance their teaching interests.  For their majors and minors and other students Department faculty serve as mentors always ready to spend time with a student who needs extra help in a course, wants to explore a topic in greater depth or seeks advice about post-graduate study and career paths.  These close, mentoring relationships between students and faculty distinguish the Westminster experience in these and other disciplines.
