The Diversity Center

The Center for Intercultural Engagement

The aptitude to understand people from diverse backgrounds with different life experiences, while also becoming aware of the public policy realms that impact their lives, is becoming increasingly important not only within the professional world but in our personal lives as well.

The Center for Intercultural Engagement is thus entrusted to create opportunities where members of the Westminster College community can gain the tools to thrive in a diverse environment in addition to developing the ability to correctly articulate the public issues of today.

The Center's programming is centered on celebrating different cultures, traditions, and ways of life, thus creating a platform to indulge in conversations on diverse public policy topics based on a cross-cultural perspective.

Additionally, the Center also supports the needs and concerns of historically underrepresented student populations and multicultural student organizations. Together with these student populations and organizations, the office creates awareness and celebrates the similarities and differences among the members of the Westminster community.

Fellow for Intercultural Engagement: Lusitania Savio

For the 2018-2019 academic year, Lusitania will take on the role as the Intercultural Engagement Fellow at Westminster College. She graduated from Westminster College with a BA in Environmental Science and a minor in Geology. During her time as a Westminster Student, she served several years as the leader for Westminster's Praise and Worship Team. Additionally, she was a member of Student Ambassadors, a member of Interfaith House, and worked with the Office of Spiritual Life and the Center for Faith and Service. Diversity and intercultural engagement are important to her because learning different perspectives allows you to travel the world without physically traveling.

As the new Intercultural Engagement Fellow, Lusitania hopes to continue the hard work and events that her predecessors have successfully undertaken, such as marking a variety of holy days and bringing in engaging speakers on difficult topics. Using her four years of experience working with the Center for Faith and Service, she wants to not only bring new ideas that will help the Office of Intercultural Engagement to flourish, but also to integrate her passion for environmentalism into events for the 2018-2019 academic year.
