Career Counseling and Assessment
Professional staff is available to meet individually with students to discuss any issues related to career development. Help is often sought in the areas of selecting a major, developing a focus within a particular career field, writing a resume, preparing for an interview, and learning job-searching strategies.
Several career assessments are also available for students to take and are often used in conjunction with meeting with a career counselor. Costs of these assessments range from no charge to a minimal fee. Some of the assessments available are the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory, the Self-Directed Search, the Strong Interest Inventory, and SIGI PLUS. The Director of the Office of Career Services is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and is qualified to interpret these assessments.
In addition, over 150 career-related books are available in the Career Resource Library that can be checked out by students. Over 50 free handouts are also available for students on a variety of topics ranging from “Writing a Resume” to “What can I do with a major in…?” Numerous free publications with current career-related information are also distributed to students every year.
