Creating a Resume/Cover Letter
Assistance is available from the Office of Career Services' professional staff to help students write a resume and other business correspondence. It is recommended that students first attend a resume writing workshop offered in the Fall or stop by and pick up a handout of general guidelines before putting together their first draft.
Many books on the subject of resume/cover letter writing may be checked out from the Career Resource Library, and over 25 examples of resumes are also available for students to browse through and take copies with them.
After a rough draft of a resume/cover letter has been developed, it is recommended that students make an appointment to have the document critiqued. This is a crucial step that cannot be emphasized enough. Remember that the resume should be a document that reflects an individual’s strengths and experiences as they relate to a chosen field.
