RESNET: Student Residence Hall Network Connections

Preliminary Information

Steps to Getting Connected....

1.  Remove any antivirus software that you currently have on your PC (AVG, Norton, McAfee, or otherwise).

2.  Students will need an Ethernet cable to connect their computers to the residential network. Students living in the Quad (Rice, Scott, Gage, and Marquess) may use a wireless card to connect.

Ethernet: Use an Ethernet cable with plenty of slack. Plug one end into your computer’s network port and the other end into your room’s data port. The data port in your room is usually the bottom or right port.

Wireless: Verify that your computer is capable of making wireless connections. Be sure that your wireless networking device is enabled by opening the Control Panel and double-clicking Network Connections. Once your wireless device is enabled, right-click on its icon in Network Connections and choose, “View Available Wireless Networks.” Find “Quad-B” on the list and connect to it.

3.  Students connecting through the residential network will have to download the Clean Access Agent to verify that their computers meet our security requirements. Once your PC is connected to the network, use your web browser to visit http://www.google.com. You will be directed to the Clean Access authentication page. Use your Westminster network ID and password to authenticate yourself.

4.  The system will prompt you to download the Clean Access Agent. Be sure to download and install the client. Once the client is installed, you will have to authenticate yourself on the network through it. Use the same user name and password that you used in step 2. Accept any security certificates that you are prompted to accept. The Clean Access Agent will prompt you through the installation of the required virus protection and security updates. As long as you complete the required steps and your system is found to be clean, you will be granted access to the network and the Internet.   If Clean Access finds a security issue, you will not be granted access to the network until the issue is resolved. If you are unable to remedy the security issue, please contact the Help Desk at x5169 or help@westminster-mo.edu so that an RTA can assist you.

If you have questions, please e-mail the Computer Services Help Desk or call x5169.
