What To Bring

Fulton is located in central Missouri, in the heart of the United States - the midwest. Missouri has hot summers and cold winters, so clothing for almost all weather conditions is necessary but can be bought inexpensively in the U.S. if you do not already have it.

All new international students will receive a "welcome basket" upon arrival to assist you while you are first settling in. The welcome kit includes one set of sheets, a pillow & blanket, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, soap, one set of towels, a telephone, some school supplies, a bottle of water, snacks, etc. to help you feel more at home. This welcome basket was inspired by past international students who wished they had these things when they first arrived. If you are an international student and are already living in the U.S., contact the Office of International Programs to cancel the welcome basket if you think you will not need it.

Prior to arrival, make certain that you have enough money with you to get started. All countries have different regulations about wiring or getting money to the U.S., so check with your local bank about how to access your money while in the U.S. The first month is the most expensive month because of initial living expenses, tuition, and school supplies. It is also a good idea to have some American dollars with you while traveling in case your traveling plans are interrupted or you need to make emergency phone calls.

Be sure to carry all important documents with you (on your person and not packed in baggage) to the U.S. These include:

  • All immigration documents:  Passport, visa, and I-20.
  • Official transcripts from secondary schools, colleges, or universities.
  • Medical and dental records, including certificates of immunizations and vaccinations.
  • Information about medical conditions or treatments, prescriptions for medicine and eyeglasses.
  • Marriage certificate, if married.
