Student Information
What is an Internship?
- The internship program at Westminster is designed to extend student learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting into the professional work environment.
- Internships allow students to earn academic credit (though not a requirement) while undertaking planned, professionally supervised work experiences related to their on-campus academic programs and career interests.
- At its core, an internship is a work-learn experience. In return for offering your hard work, enthusiasm, and new ideas, the organization should provide you with an opportunity to learn about a potential profession and to make an impact on the organization.
Internships should never be solely "grunt work", however routine tasks are a part of every profession. The most successful interns take on whatever projects the organization gives them. As the intern gains the trust of the organization, there is usually the opportunity to take on more advanced projects. |
